A Capacity Building Programme on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) was organized by the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), IIT Patna, from 2nd to 7th February 2026, with the objective of strengthening academic understanding and pedagogical integration of Indian Knowledge Systems in higher education.

Shashi Kumar Shekhar, Assistant Professor at Amaltas College of Education, Indrapuri, Rohtas, and a UGC–IKS Certified Master Trainer, was invited as a Resource Person and delivered expert sessions on 2nd February 2026 as part of the programme.

He conducted two academic sessions focusing on the Elements of Indian Knowledge Systems. The first session, “Elements of IKS – I” (9:30 AM to 11:00 AM), introduced participants to the objectives of the programme and the conceptual foundations of IKS. The session included a detailed explanation of Anubandha Chatushtaya, essential IKS terminology, and addressed common misconceptions surrounding Indian Knowledge Systems. The historical roots and contemporary relevance of IKS were highlighted, providing participants with a strong conceptual base.

The second session, “Elements of IKS – II” (2:00 PM to 3:30 PM), emphasized the multidisciplinary nature of Indian Knowledge Systems and India’s rich knowledge heritage. The session explored diverse domains within an IKS-inspired academic framework and presented a comparative analysis of scientific traditions, demonstrating the continued relevance of IKS in modern academic and research contexts.

The sessions were well-received by participating faculty members and scholars and contributed significantly to enhancing their understanding of Indian Knowledge Systems as an interdisciplinary and integrative framework. The programme successfully aligned with the national vision of promoting Indian Knowledge Systems in teaching, learning, and research across higher education institutions.

Notably, Amaltas College of Education has introduced “Introduction to Indian Knowledge Systems” as a value-added course for its students, reflecting the institution’s commitment to integrating Indian knowledge traditions into teacher education. The course has been conceptualized and curated by Shashi Kumar Shekhar, drawing upon both classical sources and contemporary academic perspectives on IKS.
